Perioperative surgical complications of transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion: a single-center experience

i) Study design: For all eligible patients from a consecutive series of 531 TLIF procedures, the institution’s complication database and the medical record were reviewed to identify complications.
ii) The most common complications were durotomy (14.3% of patients) and infection (3.8% of patients).
iii) The overall complication rate was greater in those patients who had undergone a previous operation (OR 1.75, 95% CI 1.18-2.59; p < 0.01) and in those who had multilevel surgery (OR 1.54, 95 % CI 1.04-2.28; p = 0.03), and the incidence of durotomy was higher in patients who had a previous operation (OR 1.75, 95% CI 1.07-2.87; p = 0.03).
